Threats to Marriage in Today’s World

Same sex marriage. This may be the most controversial subject in our society today. Many people are afraid to speak their mind about how they feel, if what they believe goes against popular opinion. We live in a “Changing world” now more than any time in history have fundamental truths been altered or questioned. Marriage has always been between a man and a woman, only with in the last decade have we decided to “redefine” what marriage is. Prophet’s throughout time have prophesied of the disintegration of the family. One might ask how exactly this happens? Well you start by taking away what people know to be true. In The Family: A Proclamation to the World it clearly states, “The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan.” When we try to redefine marriage or family not only are we conforming to society and the natural man, but we go against Gods laws. The laws of nature itself dictates that only a man and a woman can create children. Strong families are crucial to our Heavenly Fathers plan and to the growth of our nation.
Problems thrive off of chaos, which will only continue to increase as long as there is a divide among the people. The pro-gay and lesbian vs. the pro traditional marriage one will always be pitted against the other. 30 years ago those that were gay or lesbian were ostracized, now that gay marriage is legalized we can see how this didn’t fix that problem at all, it merely flipped sides. Those who still believe in traditional marriage are often the ones who are being ostracized today. No matter which way we turn it there will always be problems.
I believe that traditional marriage is something worth fighting for. We live in a time where we will be called upon to defend our beliefs, we can’t sit idly by and do nothing. How we are seen in the eyes of God is far more important than the eyes of the world. Let us voice what we know is right.
